UPTOWN — Family Dollar is opening another Uptown location on Thursday.
The new store is scheduled to open at 4824 N. Sheridan Rd., said Family Dollar spokesman Bryn Winburn.
Winburn said the store will employ about 10 people, adding that "we strive to hire from within the communities that we serve."

The store is near the intersection of Lawrence and Sheridan, an area with a reputation as a hotspot for vagrancy and crime. A massive gang riot about a block south garnered attention from local and national media three years ago.
"Family Dollar has proudly operated stores in the Chicago area for many years, and we strive to create a safe working and shopping environment by tailoring our store operations and security for each store," Winburn said in a statement.
Family Dollar is based in North Carolina and operates more than 7,500 stories across 45 states, according to its website.
