EDGEWATER — A North Side alderman urged the community to come forward with information about a shooting Friday afternoon that injured a man on a residential street nearby two churches, police and officials said.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was shot in the leg about 1:20 p.m. in the 5300 block of North Kenmore Avenue, authorities said.

Ald. Harry Osterman (48th) sent an email to constituents asking for help from neighborhood residents to come forward with any information about the shooting.

"This investigation is ongoing," he wrote, "and my office will update the community once we have more details."

Osterman said the shooting is "believed to be gang-related" and the victim was shot in the leg.

Additional gang and tactical officers are being assigned to the area, he said.

He urged residents to contact the police department, at 312-742-8710, or his office, at 773-784-5277, with information about the crime.
