EDGEWATER — Looking for a poultry fix?
Just Turkey — serving turkey ribs, burgers and wraps — opened for business Monday at 1132 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. as the franchise's only North Side location, said franchisee and owner Ginger Maddox.
"There's nothing like this on the North Side," she said of the strictly turkey menu.
Brothers Brian and Greg Morton opened the first Just Turkey on the city's South Side in 2008 after friends and neighbors, who couldn't get enough of their backyard barbeque turkey, convinced them to try their hands as restaurateurs.
Since then, Brian Morton said, they've had lines out the door at previous grand openings and they've received franchise inquiries from all over the country, including New York and Atlanta.
Dak Korean Chicken Wings, at 1104 W. Granville Ave., opened two weeks ago, said Martin Chung, whose sister and brother-in-law own the restaurant.
He worked busily at the tail end of a weekday lunch rush, preparing orders of wings for sit-in and takeout customers while handling orders at the counter.
What makes Dak Korean chicken wings is the special sauce, called dak soy garlic, the 29 year old said.
"It's kind of like teriyaki sauce — but don't put teriyaki," he was quick to add, stressing the differentiation. "It's not."
Five wings — whole chicken wings, drumstick and all — cost $9 and 10 wings are $16.
Dak also serves rice bowls, known in Korea as "bi bim bop," and classic sides like egg rolls and not-so-classic sides like potato salad.
Chung said the restaurant wants to attract a younger crowd, and the food it serves wouldn't be considered "traditional Korean."
Dak is open 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is closed Mondays.
Just Turkey is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
