CHICAGO — The mother of a young boy who was found running alone down a sidewalk in West Englewood Monday night has been charged with child endangerment, police said.

Carla Conrad, 27, of the 7100 block of South Wood Street, was charged the misdemeanor Tuesday, police said.

Conrad was also being investigated for neglect by the Department of Children and Family Services, a spokesman said. DCFS has custody of the child.

Someone called in after finding the child in the 7200 block of South Hermitage Avenue in the freezing cold about 11:30 p.m. Monday, police said.

Police released a description of the boy but later said they had located his mother.

Conrad is scheduled to appear in domestic violence court Feb. 26.
