CHICAGO — A 78-year-old South Deering man died more than a month after he was attacked during an armed robbery near his home, police said.
J.W. Moore, of the 10200 block of South Bensley Avenue, was thrown to the ground and robbed at gunpoint by a teenager on Dec. 10 within a block of where he lived, authorities said.
Officers chased the armed attacker through an alley and eventually apprehended him, police said. Police uncovered a gun, gloves and dark clothing from the assailant, whom they identified as Dalvin Rayford, 18.
A spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner said the office was notified of Moore's death on Monday night, and his autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
Rayford was charged with armed robbery in the attack and held on $300,000 bond in December. He appeared in court Monday on additional charges of aggravated battery, unlawful restraint and unlawful use of a weapon, court records show.
It was not clear if Rayford would face murder charges.
