HUMBOLDT PARK — George Dunn’s life was focused on his son, George V.

The older Dunn had grown up in a foster home and didn’t want his son to experience the hardships he’d experienced as a boy.

Now that 2-year-old boy no longer has his father.

Dunn, 23, was killed March 10 at Hirsch and Claremont streets, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Dunn and his girlfriend of four years, Roselyn Ocasio, were at a party near their Humboldt Park home when Dunn left with another friend to pick up a small bag of marijuana, Ocasio said. While parked in front of a house in Humboldt Park, a hail of bullets struck the vehicle he was in, his girlfriend said.

Dunn died at Stroger Hospital.

Although Dunn was charged with crimes several times — mostly with misdemeanors — and may have been involved with gangs before he met Ocasio in high school, she said the birth of their son turned things around.

“When his son was born, it was all about work and his son,” Ocasio, 22, said.

George Dunn lived with Ocasio and her parents, and was a full-time employee at Wal-Mart with hopes to make a family trip to Puerto Rico in December with money he had been saving. He and Roselyn had been talking about getting their own home and possibly having more children.

“George always put himself in other people’s shoes because his parents were never there,” said his father-in-law Jay Ocasio. “If he only had a dollar, he would give you the dollar.”

There have been no charges filed in connection to Dunn’s death, according to police data.
