CHICAGO — A 6-year-old girl was fatally shot on the porch of her Little Village home in March, officials said.

Aliyah Shell was at home in the 3100 block of South Springfield Avenue when she was shot on March 17, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Aliyah's mother was on the family's porch untangling her daughter's hair and getting the child ready for a friend's birthday party when shots were fired from a pickup truck, the Chicago Tribune reported. Luis Hernandez, 16, allegedly shouted gang slogans before firing toward the porch from a truck driven by Juan Barraza, 18, the paper reported.

Both teens were charged as adults with first-degree murder in the killing, according to jail records.

Aliyah's family could not be reached for comment, and a neighbor told DNAinfo.com Chicago they moved from the Springfield Avenue home after the child's death.
