CHICAGO — The CTA warned riders to expect delays Thursday morning on the Brown and Purple lines because of power problems.

Commuters  faced "major delays" and missed stops on the Brown and Purple lines for about two hours Thursday morning when the problems were at their worst.

The express trains were experiencing delays between the Belmont and Fullerton stops, the CTA warned customers about 6:10 a.m. Loop-bound trains on the affected lines were bypassing Wellington and Diversey stops entirely, according to the alert.

At about 8 a.m., service resumed with some minor delays, and the CTA asked commuters to allow some extra time for traveling.

Plenty took to Twitter to complain.

"Power outage on the brown line between belmont and foster AND my monthly rate is going up? Something's not adding up here. #stupidcta," tweeted @Krisapino, referring to the recent fare hike.

Twitter user @madeleinemarret posted: "And then the brown line and purple line trains lost power. So, I'm just going to grow wings and fly to work."
