Man Fatally Stabbed in Lakeview

By Wendell Hutson | January 8, 2013 12:53am

LAKEVIEW — A South Side man was on parole for rape when his girlfriend allegedly stabbed him to death in a Lakeview apartment.

Brian Hawkins, 42, was stabbed in the 600 block of West Patterson Avenue on Jan. 11, 2012, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

“He had a good heart,” said the victim's mother, Joann Hawkins. “He would give you his last [dollar] if you needed it.”

His girlfriend, Lynn Crenshaw, was charged in the slaying. Crenshaw's bond was set at $1.5 million, and the 43-year-old woman remained in Cook County Jail as of Nov. 15.

Hawkins, of the 2500 block of East 77th Street, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for rape in 1994. In 2009, he found himself back in jail for failing to register as a sex offender, according to court records.

He recently had been released from prison when he was killed, his mother said.
