EAST GARFIELD PARK — A Marathon gas station clerk was fatally shot in a “stickup that went crazy,” authorities said

Baker Farhat, in his 30’s, was shot in the head July 27 at the Marathon Gas Station at 43 N. Homan Ave. in East Garfield Park. He was from the 7800 block of Rutherford Avenue in Burbank, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A witness told police that a gunman demanded money from Farhat, and after Farhat said he didn’t have any more, the gunman shot him in the head. The gunman and one other person got into a white Chevrolet suburban that fled the scene, according to the Tribune.

A relative who did not want to be named told the Tribune that Farhat’s wife and three daughters live in Jerusalem. He had been working for the store for two years and traveled often to visit his family, the relative said.

He was pronounced at the scene at 4:25 a.m.
