CHICAGO — Seventeen-year-old Valentin Bahena died after a gunman shot him through an open window of his mother's Northwest Side home Jan. 8, 2012, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office and published reports.

Bahena poked his head through the window and asked two men what they were doing
outside the apartment just before he was shot, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Bahena was pronounced dead on Jan. 9, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

He had argued with someone outside the Belmont Cragin apartment earlier that night,
though it was unclear if the argument led to the shooting, the Tribune reported.

Police said Bahena was affiliated with a gang, according to the Tribune.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, detectives were looking for two men in connection with the shooting. No one was charged.

Family members described him as a "jokester" and said he was due to become a father in July, according to the Tribune.

Bahena’s family declined to comment.

But on a Facebook page devoted to the murdered teen, his girlfriend wrote in December: "I can't stop replaying that night... never thought it'd hurt this much. Hun you will never be forgotten and noone will ever replace you as our son's dad... Rest in Paradise. Until we meet again."
