Bridgeport Dad Gunned Down Near Home

By Jackie Kostek | January 7, 2013 11:33pm

CHICAGO — On a balmy Friday night in August, the streets near U.S. Cellular field were packed with White Sox fans making their way to a night game.

Less than a mile from the stadium, Noah Cruz’s body was on the sidewalk.

Noel Cruz said his brother was helping a friend move into a new apartment near his home in Bridgeport when he was shot in broad daylight about 5:30 p.m. at 31st and Wallace streets.

“My brother was always helping people,” Noel Cruz said. “He got that from our mother.”

Noah Cruz, 30, of the 800 block of West 31st Street, was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Noel Cruz said his brother was easygoing and loved to “chill” with family and friends. The Tilden Career Academy graduate was also a father of two. His girlfriend was expecting his third child when he was killed.

No arrests have been made in the murder, according to police data.
