CHICAGO — One man is dead and another in critical condition after shots were fired on the Dan Ryan Expressway early Sunday morning.
Three men in a Nissan Sentra were travelling northbound on Interstate 94 near the Canalport Avenue exit at about 2:30 a.m. when a hail of around 20 shots rang out, according to the Illinois State Police.
The vehicle later pulled up Rush Medical Center where one of the men, identified as Lavonshay Cooper, 22, was pronounced dead at 3:05 a.m, according to the Cook County medical examiner.
The medical examiner lists Cooper as a resident of the 4200 block of West Cortez Street in Humboldt Park.
The other man was transferred to Stroger hospital where he was listed in critical but stable condition, according to police.
The third occupant of the vehicle was not hurt in the shooting, according to police.
No one is currently in custody and there are no witnesses, the Illinois State Poice said of the ongoing investigation.
