CHICAGO — A Douglas woman left her three-year-old granddaughter alone on a CTA bus, and then was found with heroin, police said.

Elaine Overton, 48, of the 3600 block South Rhodes Avenue, was charged with endangering the life and health of a child, a misdemeanor, and also felony possession of a controlled substance, police said.

Overton was arrested after police were called to a CTA bus in the 900 block of South State Street  about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when an adult passenger spotted the girl without adult supervision.

Police found the toddler's mother and found the grandmother later that night, authorities said.

Overton was found with heroin in her pants pocket at the time of her arrest, police said.
