River West — A man is in good condition after being rescued from the Chicago River Christmas morning.

Chicago Fire Department divers pulled the man out of the water in the 200 block of South Riverside Plaza about 9:20 a.m., before he went under, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Kevin MacGregor said.

He was initially taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition to be treated for hypothermia, MacGregor said.

Police spokesman Joshua Purkiss said the man is in his 40s and was apparently trying to commit suicide.
