CHICAGO — No passengers were aboard a Metra train when several cars derailed just north of Union Station Monday evening.

Two cars from an inbound train derailed near Washington Street just before 6 p.m. The train was traveling slowly on its way in from Franklin Park, said Metra spokesman Tom Miller. The train was due to carry passengers on its outbound trip.

Milwaukee District and North Central District trains run on the tracks north of Union Station. The lines experienced delays but were operating normally as of 7:20 p.m., according to the Metra website.

Initial reports said six Metra cars were lying on their sides, but that was not the case.
