2 Elderly People Injured in High-Rise Senior Housing Fire

CHICAGO — Two senior citizen were hospitalized following a fire on the eighth floor of a Bronzeville senior housing complex Sunday morning, fire officials said.

The fire occurred at the Maudelle Brown Bousfield Apartments, 4949 S. Cottage Grove Ave., across from Hales Franciscan High School, according to fire officials.

An 85-year-old was sent to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with burns covering up to 25 percent of his or her body, according to fire department officials. The person's injuries are considered life threatening.

A 67-year-old was also taken the University of Chicago Hospital in fair condition.

No further information was available.
