CHICAGO — An Austin man was killed and a teen girl wounded in a shooting in Austin Monday night, authorities said.

Sherman Horton, 38, was sitting in a car with a 17-year-old girl about 10:30 p.m. Monday in the 5800 block of West Superior Street when two suspects approached on foot and one fired shots at the car, according to authorities.

Horton, who lives a block away, was hit in the armpit and pronounced dead at West Suburban hospital at 11 p.m., according to cops and the Cook County medical examiners office.

The 17-year-old suffered a graze wound to the buttocks and was in good condition at West Suburban Hospital, police said.

Both suspects fled after the shots were fired, police said.

The motive for the shooting is unknown.
