CHICAGO — The smell of gasoline repelled onlookers as oil leaked into a downtown street Tuesday, causing firefighters to quarantine the area.

Fuel spilled into the street in front of the Hyatt Regency Chicago hotel at 151 E. Wacker Drive around 3:30 p.m., according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The driver of the spill's source, an Aries Shuttle van, was visibly upset as he watched firefighters contain the level 1 Hazmat spill.

"Obviously you can see what happened though," he said. "It's leaking gas."

Fire crews were still working to contain the spill more than an hour later.
