CHINATOWN —  A shopkeeper in Chinatown was arrested after he was caught with counterfeit designer accessories, authorities said.

Xiao Jin You, 45, of Chicago, was arrested outside his store at 2230 S. Wentworth Ave. — in the heart of the neighborhood's bustling commercial strip — about 4 p.m. Tuesday, Cook County sheriff's police said.

He was slapped with misdemeanor and felony counterfeiting charges after investigators discovered him in possession of nearly 1,000 purses and scarves carrying high-end names like Coach, Chanel, Gucci and Louis Vuitton, authorities said.

"If you can buy a Louis Vuitton purse for $40 it's probably not real," said sheriff's spokeswoman Sophia Ansari.

Xiao Jin You, 45, of Chicago, was charged with possession of counterfeit trademarked goods.

After You had been hauled away in handcuffs, at least four would-be shoppers on Tuesday evening expressed surprise that the store had abruptly closed but declined further comment.

You is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
