CHICAGO — A man suspected of being the so-called "Stringer Bell Bandit," wanted for pulling off a slew of bank robberies in the Loop, was charged with one of the heists on Monday, the FBI said.
Kenneth Anderson, 46, of Auburn Gresham, was arrested Friday by Chicago Police bicycle patrol officers after they were tipped off by bank employees, the FBI said.
The suspect was dubbed the "Stringer Bell Bandit" because of his resemblance to the character Russell "Stringer" Bell on TV series "The Wire," the FBI said.
Anderson is charged with robbing a branch of Fifth Third Bank at 1 S. Dearborn St. on Nov. 2, in which he made off with more than $2,300, according to the FBI.
The alleged "Stringer Bell Bandit" is suspected of robbing 10 banks in the Loop from early October until late November, including the Citibank at 111 W. Jackson Blvd. twice, according to law enforcement officials.
Anderson appeared Monday morning in court and was ordered held until his next court date.
