CHICAGO — A grandmother allegedly beat and burned her young grandchildren at a South Shore home — just four years after the victims were taken away from their mom for suspected abuse, police said.

Goldine Williams, of the 7500 block of South Kingston Avenue, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery of a child for the alleged attacks on the 5-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy and held on $200,000 bail, police said.

The children were put in Williams' care in December 2008 after abuse and neglect allegations were substantiated against their biological mother, said DCFS spokesperson Jimmie Whitelow.

Williams became their legal guardian in December 2011, Whitelow said.

The abuse by Williams, which happened on the 1400 block of East 68th Street, was reported Oct. 18, but is alleged to have happened several times, police said.

The children were put in the care of relatives, Whitelow said.
