LAKEVIEW — A 26-year-old woman was hit by a taxi on the city's North Side shortly after midnight and is in critical condition, authorities said.

The woman was outside of a crosswalk at 12:45 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Clark and School streets in Lakeview when she was struck by a cab, police said.

She was attempting to cross the street diagonally, police said.

The woman later was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

Police said the cab driver remained on the scene after the crash. He also was held for testing, which is standard for any accident involving a taxi and a personal injury crash, police said.
