CHICAGO — A man shot his neighbor to death in Chatham, but was quickly taken into custody by police, who witnessed the end of the shooting, according to authorities and reports.

James Reddick, 58, a handyman from the 700 block of East 87th Place, was killed near the driveway of his home the night of April 19, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

According to the Tribune, police in the area heard gunshots and arrived at the scene in time to see the suspect, Michael Jones, fire three shots into Reddick's head.

The police then chased down Jones, who reportedly lived down the street from the victim and had a gang affiliation, and took him into custody, the Tribune reported.

Jones, of Flossmoor, was charged with murder.
