UPTOWN — An intoxicated motorist with no driver's license or proof of insurance critically injured an elderly pedestrian Friday morning and then tried to flee the scene, police said.

The 87-year-old victim was crossing the street in the 4700 block of North Broadway about 7 a.m. when Michael Izeta, 26, of West Ridge, struck him with his vehicle and drove away, leaving the victim in critical condition, police said.

Police said the driver made it about a block before officers caught up to him in the 4700 block of North Racine Avenue.

Izeta was charged with felony DUI resulting in serious injury, striking a pedestrian in the roadway, failure to yield, running a red light, driving with no license and driving with no insurance.

Emergency crews rushed the injured man to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said. The victim was still in critical condition Saturday night, police said.

On Sunday, Izeta was ordered held on $350,000 bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
