The city is changing its formula on calculating school overcrowding but not lowering target class sizes.

Under the city's current plan, approximately 38,000 new school seats would be created citywide.

A petition calling for a school to be built at the affordable housing site has more than 400 signatures.

Parents will present a petition with over 600 signatures to Chancellor Carmen Farina Wednesday night. 

Dozens of Forest Hills kids are waitlisted and will be sent to schools further away, parents said.

Schools in the neighborhood have had long kindergarten waitlists since at least 2012.

The school will cut four of its six kindergarten classes next year, the DOE said.

The 1,700 students at P.S. 143 share a small building, with 6 trailers and an annex 15 blocks away.

Schools are crowded in all five boroughs. New seats are on the way, but not enough to solve the problem.

Speaker Silver is offering space in his office building to create more classrooms at DOE headquarters.

The DOE said it added 25 new seats to the popular school to accomodate a long waitlist this year. 

Jovita Sosa was repeatedly told a new DOE computer system, not principals, controls enrollment.

The DOE estimates nearly 7,000 students take classes in trailers. Advocates put the number much higher.

A proposal to ease overcrowding at P.S. 11 in Woodside would make it worse, parents said.

P.S. 276 and the Peck Slip School will not run pre-K programs during the 2014-2015 school year.
