American jazz legend Louis Armstrong shares his birthday with the republic on July 4th.
So, before the fourth of July fireworks, make a trip to his home in Corona for a first-hand view of how the musician lived and performed.
Special historic house tours will give you a tour of the Louis Armstrong House Museum and will include rare, personal audio clips of Armstrong celebrating his past birthdays with his family and friends. The clips are played just once a year to commemorate his birthday - July 4, 1900.
No birthday is complete without cake. Visitors will get to enjoy dessert in Armstrong’s Japanese-inspired garden and kids under 12 will get a free cupcake.
Continue Armstrong’s birthday celebrations with a book reading celebrating the music, food and culture of New Orleans. Author Randy Fertel will read excerpts from his book The Gorilla Man and the Empress of Steak: A New Orleans Family Memoir at 1 pm.
