William Gorta

Before joining DNAinfo, William Gorta was the Brooklyn state courts reporter for the New York Post

During his 11 years at the Post, he worked as a general assignment reporter, night rewrite and crime editor.  Before joining the paper, he spent 20 years in the NYPD, retiring in 2000 as a captain. 

While he was a lieutenant, he was the ranking officer on the COMPSTAT development team. While serving on the NYPD, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Literature/Writing from Columbia University’s School of General Studies. 

William won a Fulbright Research Fellowship in Public Administration and spent the 1997-1998 academic year in the United Kingdom.

He graduated from Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism in 2001.  A native of Rosedale, Queens, he has three children. He lives on the Upper East Side.
 
Fun Fact:  The first time William cried in front of his wife and children was when the New York Rangers won the Stanley Cup in 1994.
