Olivia Scheck is a regular freelancer for DNAinfo.com.
Before graduating from Yale in 2009, she spent most of her time studying cognitive science and performing (totally friendly, non-invasive) experiments with monkeys and toddlers.
But, in the summer before her senior year, she caught the journalism bug during an internship with “60 Minutes.” While there, she researched stories on topics ranging from the gambling industry to child labor to robotic limbs.
After graduating, she helped launch a website called The Faster Times, worked as a consultant for an advertising firm and staffed a New York City Council campaign. She also occasionally writes for 3QuarksDaily.com.
Born and raised in Brooklyn Heights, Olivia spent her youth catching movies at the Film Forum and attending Knicks games with her dad, though her enthusiasm admittedly waned after the ‘96-‘97 season.
Fun Fact: Olivia acted in an ad for the first ever TriBeCa Film Festival in 2002. She landed the role following an acclaimed appearance as “Girl Thrown in Dumpster” in “Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV.”
