MANHATTAN — A 13-year-old boy suffered fatal head injuries when he darted through traffic and was hit by an SUV in East Harlem, police said Monday.
Kayshawn Whitick, 13, was running south down the eastside lane of Fifth Avenue just before 2 p.m. Wednesday when he dashed into the intersection with East 135th Street and was hit by a Jeep Wrangler, NYPD officials said.
Whitick, who lives in Central Harlem, was knocked to the ground, injuring his head, police said. He died the next day at Harlem Hospital, police said.
The driver, a 42-year-old woman, wasn't immediately arrested or ticketed, police said.
Police said their investigation continues.
