THE BRONX — Police arrested one of two men who broke a deli clerk's jaw by fast-pitching avocados at his face in a fight over a food order, they said Thursday.

Brad Gomez, 28, was enraged because he felt his food order was taking too long and threw the fruit at the 21-year-old clerk behind the counter of Stadium Gourmet Deli at 109 E. 161 St. about 4:44 a.m. May 29, NYPD officials said.

The missile appeared to catch the clerk off guard, hitting him in the side of the face as he was looking away, according to dramatic video released by police.

Another man joined Gomez in the assault, hurling more produce and trashing the deli, video shows. He hadn't been arrested as of Thursday, police said.

The victim was treated for a broken jaw, facial fractures and bruises at Lincoln Medical Center, police said.

Investigators got a tip through Crime Stoppers on Wednesday and tracked down Gomez to his Concourse apartment and arrested him for assault about 10 a.m., an NYPD spokesman said.

He hadn't been arraigned as of Thursday afternoon, police said.
