QUEENS — This will be a night of hip-hop and fashion.

Rapper Terrance Kelly, better known by his stage name Mr. Cheeks, will perform at this year's Jamaica Just My Style fashion show, organized by the Jamaica Center Business Improvement District to promote the neighborhood as a fashion, cultural and shopping destination, the organizers said.

Mr. Cheeks grew up in South Jamaica where he co-founded hip-hop group Lost Boyz, before launching his solo career. He also collaborated with numerous music stars, including Lil' Kim and Stephen Marley, according to his online biography.

The event, in its sixth year, will be held on June 9 at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center, and will be hosted by “Uncle” Ralph McDaniels, a DJ and hip-hop pioneer, who currently works as a hip-hop coordinator at the Queens Library.

As part of the show, local stores and designers — including Gap, Old Navy, Shoppers World, Claire’s and BlackArted — will show off their creations and latest styles on the catwalk, the organizers said.

The organizers hope that the free event, which draws hundreds of people each year, will also promote a positive image of downtown Jamaica and boost its nightlife.

“It’s not just about fashion, it’s an influential event and resource for downtown Jamaica," said Valerie Stevens, director of business services and operations at the Jamaica Center BID.

Stevens pointed out that the long-neglected neighborhood has recently been attracting numerous developments, including residential buildings and hotels.

"Our event has opened up doors to new developments in the neighborhood," she said. "It shows that Jamaica is a hot spot, that it’s welcoming, it’s friendly and it’s a destination."

The event will be held on Friday, June 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center at 153-10 Jamaica Ave. For more information go here.
