QUEENS — Burglars broke into a Kew Gardens Hills home Wednesday and made off with $80,000 worth of gold bricks and $50,000 in cash, police said.

The thieves forced their way into the home on 77th Avenue, near 164th Street around noon through a rear window, which was cracked open, police said Thursday.

They stole 60 ounces of gold, which according to the owner was worth about $80,000, as well as $50,000 in cash, two handguns, jewelry, the victim's social security card, credit cards and passport, authorities said.

When the 65-year-old owner returned home around 7:30 p.m., his front door was also open, police said.

The house did not have any surveillance cameras or an alarm system, authorities said.

Investigators are canvassing the area for witnesses and video surveillance footage from other homes in the neighborhood.

The incident was first reported by the Daily News.
