Woman Fights Off Attempted Rapist Who Dragged Her Over Fence, NYPD Says

​JACKSON HEIGHTS — ​A woman fought off her attempted rapist after he punched her multiple times in the back of the head and dragged her over a fence near 74th Street, police said.

The 35-year-old woman was walking near 74th Street and 37th Avenue at 4:40 a.m. Sunday when she was attacked from behind, with the suspect grabbing her by her arms, police said.

He punched her multiple times in the back of the head and dragged her over a fence where he tried to rape her, according to the NYPD.

But the victim fought him off, running toward 37th Avenue, where she flagged down help from a driver. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital with bruising to her head and torso, and is in stable condition. 

The suspect fled north on 74th Street with the woman's purse, police said. He is approximately 30 to 35 years old, 5-feet, 5-inches tall with a medium build, and was last seen wearing a white jacket, green shirt, black shoes and light colored pants, police said.
