BROOKLYN — A fire sparked by faulty electrical equipment tore through the third floor of a Flatbush apartment building Thursday night, leaving two people critically injured and 12 others hurt, officials said.
The flames erupted on the third floor of 554 E. 26th St., near Flatbush Avenue, about 9:13 p.m., an FDNY spokesman said.
The two critical victims, whose ages and identities were not released, were taken to Kings County Hospital, the spokesman said.
The other 12 victims, who suffered minor injuries, were treated at Brooklyn Hospital, Downstate Medical Center and New York Community Hospital, officials said.
One person refused medical attention at the scene, the FDNY said.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control about 9:54 p.m., officials said.
Fire marshals determined the fire was sparked by faulty electrical equipment.
