Woman Stabbed to Death by Ex-Boyfriend in Their Far Rockaway Apartment

By Katie Honan | February 27, 2017 8:27am

FAR ROCKAWAY — A woman was brutally stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend in the apartment they shared — and her mother was also stabbed when she tried to intervene, police said.

Monet Franklin, 51, was fighting with her ex-boyfriend, Johnnie Jones, 42, inside a fifth floor apartment at 333 Beach 32nd St. in Far Rockaway just before 2 a.m. Sunday when the argument turned violent, police said.

Jones stabbed Franklin in the neck and chest, and stabbed Franklin's 74-year-old mother in the hand as she tried to defend her daughter from the brutal attack, police said.

Franklin was pronounced dead at the apartment, and her mother is being treated at Jamaica Hospital and listed in stable condition.

Jones — who has more than 10 prior arrests, including busts for criminal possession of a weapon, robbery, and criminal mischief, police said — was arrested at the scene and charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

The apartment building was also the scene of another brutal domestic dispute in 2016, when Tyquan Long shot and killed his girlfriend after suspecting she was cheating on him, police said.

Police said Long also shot another woman, who they described as the mother of the man he believed his girlfriend was cheating on him with.
