Man Pushes Woman to Ground While Trying to Steal Purse, Police Say

By Nicholas Rizzi | February 13, 2017 1:32pm

TOMPKINSVILLE — A man shoved a woman to the ground after trying to steal her purse on a Tompkinsville street, police said.

The 62-year-old victim was walking past 8 Edgar Terrace on Feb. 3 when the man came from behind her and tried to grab her purse around 6:15 p.m., the NYPD said.

He failed to get the bag, pushed the woman to the ground and ran towards Westervelt Avenue, police said

The left side of the woman's face had scratches and a bump from the attack and she was treated by EMS on scene, according to the NYPD.

It's unclear why police waited so long to release information about the attempted robbery.

The suspect was last seen wearing all black clothing, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
