KIPS BAY — A high-ranking NYPD official warned gym-goers against leaving their valuables at a Kips Bay branch of the tony Equinox gym chain after a string of thefts at the location.

Inspector Russell Green, commanding officer of the Midtown South Precinct, urged members at the 1 Park Ave. Equinox gym to be wary of leaving items there in a pair of tweets sent this week.

Less than a month into 2017, thieves have struck at least four lockers at the gym, hitting two on Jan. 10 and two again on Jan. 21, according to police.

That’s on track to outpace last year, which saw 14 reported thefts at the location, including four in January, six in April, two in June and two in October, police said.

Police did not immediately provide information on the type or value of the items taken, and did not say whether the thief or thieves had used tools to clip locks.

Representatives from Equinox did not respond to a request for comment, and a manager at the location was not immediately available to speak about Green’s comments.
