UNION SQUARE — Local parents and students will have an opportunity to meet with the principal of District 2's newest middle school on Nov. 15 at the Clinton School for Writers and Artists.

Principal Jacqui Getz was selected this summer to lead the new school, which is bringing hundreds of new seats to Manhattan's largest school district, spanning from Manhattan's southernmost tip to 59th Street on the west side and 96th Street on the east side. (It excludes the Lower East Side, which comprises District 1.)

The school was expected to open at 75 Morton St. in the West Village in September 2017, but construction issues arose with the new building, prompting the Department of Education to delay its opening by a year.

The DOE is pushing for the first class of sixth graders assigned to M.S. 297 — the official name of the school long known as 75 Morton — to start in September 2017, and be housed at the Clinton School for Writers and Artists at 10 East 15th St.

That co-location will require approval by the Panel for Education Policy, the DOE said.

Getz will be available to meet parents and students at the Clinton School on Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in a public meeting hosted by Community Board 2, the Community Education Council for District 2 and the volunteer group 75 Morton Community Alliance.
