MURRAY HILL — A robber held up a Santander Bank on Monday, making off with more than $1,000 in cash, according to the NYPD.

The bandit strolled into the Santander branch at 711 Third Ave. and East 44th Street just before 10:30 a.m., passed a note to the teller demanding cash, and claimed to have a gun on him, police said.

The robber, whom police described as standing about 5-foot-10 and sporting a tattoo on his hand, requested “just fifties and hundreds” and fled the bank with $1,200, police said.

This location has been robbed at least once before this year, when a dapper serial bank robber, later identified by police as Joseph DiBenedetto, robbed the place on May 12 and stole an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police at the time.

DiBenedetto was arrested in August, and prosecutors said he robbed at least five banks over six months to support a heroin addiction.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit tips on the website.
