LOWER EAST SIDE — A pair of thieves beat and robbed a 77-year-old man after forcing their way into his apartment over the weekend, police said.

The victim was walking down the stairs of his residence on Baruch Drive near East Houston Street around 1:28 p.m. Sunday when he noticed the two men following him to the door of his apartment and called for his home attendant to open the door, according to police.

As the suspects followed the victim to his door, one of them yelled, "I'm not going to do anything," according to a police report.

When the home attendant, a 39-year-old woman, opened the apartment door, the duo shoved the victim through the door and one of the men punched him in the face, causing bruising and swelling to his left eye, police said, before stealing his cellphone and $200 cash from his pants pocket.

The other man grabbed the home attendant and took her into the living room, where he snatched her cellphone and began rifling through the apartment, authorities said.

In addition to the two cellphones and cash, the thieves made off with a $500 Nikon camera, according to a police report.

One of the men is described as around 43-years-old, standing at 5-foot-8 and weighing 170 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes. The other is roughly 35 years old, 5-foot-11 and 160 pounds, also with short black hair and brown eyes, police said.
