MIDTOWN — A thief struck a 73-year-old woman in the head and stole her purse while she was waiting for a taxi on Sixth Avenue, the NYPD said.

The victim, from Manhattan, told police she was waiting for a cab in front of 1370 Sixth Ave., between West 55th and  56th streets, around 4 p.m. on July 27 when a woman she didn’t know came up to her and suggested she stand in the middle of the street to hail the cab.

As the victim was speaking with the woman, a man ran up to her from behind and hit her in the head with his palm, the NYPD said.

The attacker grabbed the victim's purse from her shoulder, but she tried to hold onto it, injuring her left wrist, police said.

He fled with the woman’s purse, which contained $125 in cash, her Social Security card, a Citibank debit card, an ID card, a government-issued cellphone, medicine, house keys and four medical cards, the NYPD said.

There have been no arrests.
