LOWER EAST SIDE – Girl power will take over the Hester Street Fair Saturday.

For one day, the outdoor market at Hester and Essex streets will become a “Girl Power Fair,” featuring the handiwork of female entrepreneurs and creators along with special performances and workshops celebrating the power of female visionaries.

“We believe in the power of a girl to create whatever she can imagine, to express herself, and to be whatever she wants to be,” reads the invitation to the event, which kicks off at 11 a.m. and runs until 6 p.m.

Vendors and visitors alike will have a chance to create and decorate a panel expressing what “girl power” means to them, which will be hung at the fair’s entrance to signify the theme.

In addition to showcasing a host of female vendors — such as the women of Phin & Phebes Ice Cream, who will be scooping out their fresh flavors all day — the fair will offer up some girl-powered workshops, letting visitors design their own “Girl Power” T-shirts or dig through the best women-centric magazines at the Zine Corner.

Musician and activist Kiran Gandhi, famous for free bleeding her way through the London Marathon in an effort to dispel period stigma, will take the stage early afternoon for a performance and chat with the fair hosts.

The event is free and open to the public, but visitors are encouraged to donate to the LES Girl’s Club.
