NEW DORP BEACH — A man attempted to rape a woman after he broke into a locked bathroom while she was showering, police said.

The 22-year-old woman was showering in an apartment near Ebbitts Street and Hett Avenue on Tuesday when Miguel Felipe, 30, allegedly broke into the bathroom at about 9:15 a.m., the NYPD said.

Felipe touched the woman and then threw her to the ground as she tried to fight him off, police said. While on the floor, Felipe choked the woman.

After he let her up, the woman managed to convince Felipe to let her out of the bathroom then ran out of the apartment into the street, police said.

The victim got help from people nearby and was treated and released from a local hospital, police said.

Felipe — who also goes by "Tino" or "Constantino" — fled the apartment in an unknown direction and police described him as standing 5-foot-4 and weighing 150 pounds.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
