PROSPECT HEIGHTS — Police released a sketch of a suspect wanted for trying to rape a woman on the street earlier this month amid a string of similar attacks in the area, the NYPD said.

The incident happened on Park Place between Carlton and Vanderbilt avenues in Prospect Heights as the 31-year-old victim walked east at 1:50 a.m. on July 12, police said.

The man came up behind the woman, pushed her to the ground and pulled off her underwear, the NYPD said. The woman fought off the suspect, who then fled from the scene. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment of cuts to her face and knee, police said.

The attempted rape is the latest in a series of four attacks in the area that police previously said may be linked, including two assaults in Park Slope and one in Windsor Terrace. In each, the target was a woman between the ages of 21 and 34 walking alone late at night.

Police last week detailed an attempted rape on the same date and at the same location as the July 12 incident, though officials could not confirm if they were the same attack.

On Tuesday, the NYPD released a sketch of the suspect, showing a man in his mid-20s wearing a backwards baseball cap.

Police couldn't say on Tuesday whether the suspect in the most recent case is currently being investigated as a suspect in the other three cases. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at (800) 577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, (888) 57-PISTA (74782).
