ROSSVILLE — A man died after he crashed his car into a metal guardrail on the West Shore Expressway Thursday morning, police said.
Christopher Rucci, 38, of Rossville, was driving his 2015 Kia Optima southbound on the West Shore Expressway, toward the Bloomingdale Road exit, at about 7:49 a.m. when he struck the center guardrail of the highway, the NYPD said.
Rucci's car then veered off into the right shoulder of the highway and eventually stopped in the grass embankment, police said.
Officers found Rucci unconscious when they arrived on the scene and he was taken to Staten Island University Hospital South, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
Police said an investigation into the crash was ongoing.
