WILLIAMSBRIDGE — A good Samaritan was hurt after jumping down to help an elderly woman who'd fallen onto the subway tracks and was burned by the third rail in The Bronx Tuesday morning, officials said.

The 68-year-old woman tumbled onto the tracks at the Gun Hill Road 2-train station, near White Plains Road, and came in contact with the third rail about 10:47 a.m., FDNY and MTA officials said.

She was taken to Montefiore Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

The unidentified good Samaritan then leaped onto the tracks to help. She was taken to Montefiore with minor injuries, officials said.

It's unclear what exactly caused the 68-year-old woman to lose her balance, police said.

Some 2 trains were briefly disrupted, but regular service resumed about 11:20 a.m., the MTA said.
