6 Gadgets to Keep You Cool This Summer

NEW YORK CITY — If the hot temperatures from the last few days have worn you down, there's some smart gadgets promising to keep you cool.

Here's six ways technology can lower your body temperature:

things

Sol Cool Arm Sleeves from Exofficio
Price: $24

It might seem strange to add more layers when you're hot, but Exofficio promises to cool the skin surface by 5 degrees. The fabric contains xylitol, which is found in birch trees. When the fabric comes into contact with sweat, or any moisture, it cools the skin down with Exofficio. The cooling feeling is compared to the sensation of chewing zippy mint gum.

things

Smart AC Control from Tado
Price: $199

If you dread the time between switching your AC unit on and when the room actually gets cool, Tado has a solution. Tado works with any AC unit that has a remote control system and allows you to operate it from your phone. Tell Tado to switch your AC on when you're 30 minutes away from home, and enjoy the hit of icy air when you walk in the door. ConEd's Cool NYC program also offers a way to turn on your AC remotely.

things

Chilly Pad from Frogg Toggs
Price: $12.95

The chilly pad works in a similar way to a traditional bandana, except it uses hyper-evaporative material to retain more water. Simply wet it and tie it around your neck. When the Chilly Pad gets warm or dry, repeat the process.

things

Gel'O Cool Mat from Human Creations
Price: $115.30

The Gel'O Cool Mat works by distributing the buildup of trapped heat from the torso area. This map fits across a queen and king-sized bed, but you can get different sizes, including one that fits over your pillow.

things

Aero Seat Cooling Cushion from Japan Trend Shop
Price: $67 (plus $35 in shipping)

This cushion and fan combo funnels cool air to improve the temperature of your sitting situation. It is battery-powered, low-noise and comes in blue, pink or green.

things

Clip Fan from Cool on the Go
Price: 39.99

This portable fan can either run on batteries or be powered by your computer using a USB cord. Keep it on your desk or take it with you wherever you go.
