MANHATTAN — Police are warning Upper East Siders of a burglar who's been striking homes in the 80s every Fourth of July since 2014.

Last year, the man hit up three apartments at 444 E. 86th Street, snatching $122,000 worth of gold jewelry and gems at one apartment, $24,725 worth of gold, diamonds, opal, amethyst and tourmaline jewelry at another, and $87,400 worth of diamonds, gold, and other jewelry at the last apartment, police said.

The burglar was captured on a surveillance video in the last apartment wearing a baseball cap.

There were no signs of forced entry in any of the burglaries, police said. It wasn't immediately clear how he got into the apartments.

Police say the same man also burglarized an apartment building at 444 E. 82nd St. on July 4, 2014, but did not immediately have information about what was stolen.

The 19th Precinct is keeping an eye on the neighborhood this year in case the man shows up again and wants residents to be aware, sources said.
