EAST VILLAGE — A beloved, decades-old sock purveyor that shuttered earlier this year will make a comeback soon, the business announced.

The Sock Man, which closed its shop at 27 St. Marks Place in January after 33 years of hawking its colorful socks and hosiery, will re-open just a block away at 99 1/2 St. Marks Place, according to a Facebook post shared on its page on Wednesday night.

“Guess what Brothers and Sisters of Sock…they’re going to have to try harder than that to get us off the block after 33 years!” reads the post, which pledges a re-opening by Aug. 1, “if not sooner.”

Owner Marty Rosen, who first opened the sock shop in 1983, had been forced to shutter the original location when a new landlord tripled his rent, EV Grieve reported at the time.

Rosen did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
